Costa Rica Travel Guide

In this guide, you will find everything you need to know of Costa Rica, and to prepare for the trip of your dreams.

Weather

With its sun, sea, beaches, surf, and much more, Costa Rica is considered a tropical paradise. It has it all: long coasts on both the Caribbean and Pacific, mountains, rainforests, and valleys. The country enjoys a tropical climate due to its proximity to the Equator, but there are some variations due to its geography.

In Costa Rica, there are not four seasons as in many other countries; instead, there are only two: the dry season (or summer) and the rainy season. The dry season runs from late December to May, and the rainy season from June to November. Despite these variations, the temperature generally remains a pleasant 24 degrees Celsius, though this can vary depending on altitude.

Being a small and mountainous country, Costa Rica has many microclimates within a short distance of each other. This contributes to the country's diverse vegetation and rich biological diversity. For example, in the highland town of Monteverde, you'll often be surrounded by cool mist and fog for part of the day, most of the year. On the other hand, the Pacific coast around Guanacaste is hot and dry, making it perfect for its many world-class beaches.

The mountainous geography causes Costa Rica to alternate its seasons. While one half of the country is in the rainy season, the other is in the dry season, and vice versa. This means you can visit the country at any time of the year and always enjoy all it has to offer.
