Hiking Cerro de la Muerte

This is a different and very special tour for travelers who like strong treks within forests and reserves with a variety of ecosystems. It is a Trekking Tour for walkers that in addition to connecting with nature, like a rural contact. The Cerro Buena Vista (3491 feet over see level), better known as "Cerro de la Muerte", is located on the central mountainous axis of Costa Rica. It is the highest point in the Costa Rican section of the Inter-American Highway. Its name means "Mountain of Death", since in the past crossing the mountains from the Valle Central meant a three - or four-day journey, on foot or on horseback, and many ill-prepared travelers succumbed to the cold and rain. However, the peak is now easily accessible since the highway runs close by. Los Santos Forest Reserve, which will be our starting point, includes primary, secondary cloud forests. The landscape is very varied, the natural ecosystems coexist with the cultural ones. This area includes one of the most biologically diverse places in the country, and is a link between the Manuel Antonio and Tapantí National Parks. The trails are narrow, with slippery stretches. Some require attention because of the abundance of obstacles such as rocks, mud, dense vegetation. The ground is broken. We will cross several shallow streams. At some point this difficulty is rewarded by a nearby waterfall. After 6 days of hiking we will arrive to our destination in the Central Pacific where we will rest in the beautiful waters of Manuel Antonio. This route is recommended for travelers who love nature and like to discover little tourist areas of Costa Rica.
