South Caribbean

The Coast of the Caribbean Sea of Costa Rica has a total length of 212 kilometers, extends from northeast to southeast; from the border zone with the San Juan River in Nicaragua to the Sixaola River bordering Panama.

On the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica there are a lot of tourist destinations and natural beauties. Only a few hours from San Jose city you can reach this natural paradise of great beauty and culture.

The province of Limon is located in the South Caribbean, and has one of the main ports of the country and a spectacular rainbow between the exquisite Afro-Caribbean culture, nature and small aboriginal groups that remind us of the roots of our country. Green foliage of exuberant vegetation, adorned with golden and extensive beaches in a natural and autochthonous environment.

Within the most representative towns of the Caribbean we find Cahuita, Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo to name a few. Places currently with a diversity of culture that over the years have seen people moving from Europe, Canada, France enchanted by all the exuberant flora and fauna of the place, which has made it one of the main tourist destinations for foreigners as for Costa Ricans who like to live a unique experience.

Cahuita is known for its National Park and Manzanillo for its Biological Reserve, both are a world reference for its coral reef ecosystems. It is very common to take walks through its parks or reserves, observe a variety of flora and fauna such as Congo monkeys, sloths, caimans, toucans. The snorkeling activity is ideal to observe the beautiful coral reefs. There is also the practice of diving, kayaking, artisanal fishing, and very recently it is one of the most sought-after areas for yoga retreats. Finally, the activity of surfing, surfers take advantage of its majestic waves to practice this sport, since it is a good area for surfing.

The South Caribbean is suitable for receiving visitors, there are hotels, mountain lodge and restaurants, has commercial and recreational life where it is easy to find restaurants with Caribbean, international and fusion food among some of the many that it offers.

The Caribbean coast can be visited all year round, being the best time for those who do not enjoy much of the rain during the months of September and October, it is a warm, sunny climate with a clear and calm sea, its average temperature all year round is 27 degrees Celsius (81 degrees Fahrenheit).
